I wrote a Coolgrrrls post
Summer hits the streets of London, and another Coolgrrrls update emerges smiling and blinking from a hectic and grounding year.
First news is that Coolgrrrl Mar is now in London too! We met in real life for the first time a couple of weeks ago and let me tell you this girl ROCKS! She’s sassy, and funny and is so into music it would make my head explode! (Reading through her update I find it funny that she has a crush on Stuart Price….I remember Stuart from when we were both teenagers in Reading together!)
We met at a NOFX show in London, she was there with her friends from one of the support acts. NOFX kicked ass, but the best part of the night for me was seeing Eric Melvin’s face pulled into the biggest widest grin I have EVER see as he played his accordion to close the show. The boy didn’t want to leave the stage and it made me giggle.
The next gig up was Bad Religion at the Astoria. I was helluva excited as you know Bad Religion are my all time favourite band and I am buddies with Greg Hetson and we hooked in Hawaii for a vacation; so all my memories of Bad Religion really are blissful. I took my best friend Jessica along with me and we managed to negotiate the packed out venue to find Greg in a tiny sweaty dressing room. It was great to see him and we were handed giant bottles of beer to swig from and then Greg announced to the room that Jess and I were gonna watch from the side of the stage. YAY!!!!!!! Obviously I had begged Greg to let me stand on the side of the stage before. When I was a little punker I used to always stare google-eyed at the people standing on the side of the stage while my favourite bands played thinking “Who ARE those people on the side of the stage?!” and this Saturday it was me standing there, where I had always wanted to be! I couldn’t help hoping narcissistically that some of the kids in the mosh were wondering who I was this time. My friends in the crowd were texting us, WE CAN SEE YOU ON THE STAGE! And it was so cool! The band played an amazing show full of their old favourites and their greatest hits and the tracks from their new album The Empire Strikes First were outstanding. Go and buy this immediately!! [I just wish I’d had my camera with me to take a picture of me looking out over the crowd past Bad Religion.]
After the show I said to Wojtek, “Did we look silly on the stage?” to which he replied, “I thought you added a touch of much needed glamour.” God bless observant gig goers!
Unfortunately I didn’t get to hang out with Greg as much as I would have liked, as back at home it was my housemate Tristan’s birthday. Tristan is famous (in my eyes for being 23 but managing to look exactly like Dewey from Malcom in The Middle.)
And he makes a famous Magic Potato Punch which is basically a mixture of highly alcoholic spirits (in this case rum, tequila and vodka) thinly veiled with fruit juices and bits of fruit and of course a potato. Whoever gets the potato in their glass is supposed to eat it…! After three glasses I passed out, and I don’t remember the next few days at all!
We get Tristan back however. Working in the bathing trade myself and other housemate Bianca ran him a bath one night and dropped in a potatoey surprise. From the yelp he made when he discovered it I think he sat on it. Nice!
So yes, I am still working my Saturdays at Lush with my girly friends and the sexy smelly products. This Saturday was a celebration of fruit & veg at Lush - I was a grape complete with blue face, and maroon velour tracksuit stuffed to make me round.
Last week it was COWBOYS & INDIANS - I was a cowgirl cos we were promoting Lush stores in the US
Week before that SLEEPY TIME - I wore my pyjamas to promote our products to relax you and send you to sleep
Week before that was HOLIDAYS! - I dressed in my hula outfit and hula hooped outside the store on Carnaby Street to promote our more tropically scented products.
Week before that was BUGS & INSECTS DAY - I was a butterfly as we were promoting that out organic produce does not kill helpful bugs. We had two ladybirds and a bee and stuff.
Week before that 70's DAY - I dressed in flares etc –Why?! I have no idea but we played disco tracks all day long
Week before that DRESS AS A PRODUCT DAY - I dressed as Fairy Jasmine and appeared in the last Lush Times which was great timing as my boobs were very swollen and looked huge in the picture! (Keep checking this page out, I’m gonna get a scan of some of these pics!)
THIS Saturday I have a day off, but am attending a hen night so shall probably still be wearing a silly outfit of some sort. We’re all going shopping in London for wedding outfits and hats and then going to see Jerry Springer The Opera and then back to the hotel to freshen up, take a trip down to the Met Bar (renowned for being a celebrity hangout) and then up to our Metropolitan Hotel beds. Me in the Metropolitan Hotel! I feel so swish darling!!!
See ya in the next millennium!!

About Me
- Mira Manga
- This is a blog all about my experiences in Retail. As a retail support manager for a UK retail company I despair of the lack of customer service that is endemic everywhere I seem to shop, and I have plenty of opinions on this subject too!
